# Client consent for a referral to Music Licence Consulting Ltd

A template you can paste into an email to your client. It is written to satisfy
the disclosure your professional body expects before you refer: the fact of the
arrangement, who pays it, the specific amount or basis of calculation, and the
client's consent recorded in writing before any work begins.

Check it against your own firm's procedures and your professional body's current
guidance. This is a drafting aid, not advice on your obligations.

## The email

Subject: Your PPL PRS music licence, and a referral I'd like your agreement on

Hi [CLIENT NAME],

You mentioned your PPL PRS music licence ("TheMusicLicence"). I'd like to refer
you to Music Licence Consulting Ltd, an independent consultancy that checks
those bills against the published tariffs and, where the bill is wrong, gets it
corrected.

Before I do, I need to tell you about the arrangement and get your agreement.

**What it costs you:** nothing extra. For a multi-site estate review, Music
Licence Consulting charges [FEE_PERCENT]% of the savings they actually recover
for you, and nothing if they recover nothing. Their fixed-fee single invoice
check is £99. Their price to you is the same whether I refer you or you go to
them directly.

**What I receive:** Music Licence Consulting pays me a referral fee of
[REFERRAL_PERCENT]% of the fee they charge you. So if they charge you £1,000, I
receive £[REFERRAL_EXAMPLE]. If they charge you nothing, I receive nothing.

**Why I'm telling you:** my professional obligations require me to disclose any
benefit I receive from referring you, and to have your agreement in writing
before the referral goes ahead.

**My advice is unaffected.** I'm recommending them because I think the check is
worth having, and you are free to say no, to use someone else, or to go to them
directly without me.

If you're happy to proceed, just reply "agreed" to this email and I'll make the
introduction.

## Notes on filling it in

- **[FEE_PERCENT]** and **[REFERRAL_PERCENT]**: the current figures are on
musiclicenceconsulting.com/for-accountants. Use the figures in your signed
  referral arrangement if they differ.
- **[REFERRAL_EXAMPLE]**: a worked number in pounds is clearer than a percentage
on its own, and is what "a specific amount or basis of calculation" usually
  means in practice.
- Keep the client's reply on file with the engagement records.
- If your firm's own procedures require a separate disclosure form, use that
instead and treat this as the covering wording.
