Common questions

Do I have to pay PPL PRS?

If you play recorded music, radio or TV where staff or customers can hear it, you'll usually need TheMusicLicence, and a correctly calculated invoice is payable. If you genuinely play no music, or the figures on the invoice don't match your premises, you may not need to pay all or any of it. The checker above walks through the common cases.

What if I think the invoice is wrong?

Don't ignore it. Ask PPL PRS in writing for the tariff, the usage figures it's based on and the period covered, and ask how the amount will be treated while you check. There's a free letter for that on our help page.

Is this checker a decision on my invoice?

No. It's general guidance based on the published terms and tariffs. The actual answer depends on your paperwork. If you'd like a person to look at it, tell us what happened and we'll reply within 72 hours.
